Minimizing Infectious Disease Spread in Buildings: How HVAC Guidance has Evolved

Guidance on how to best manage HVAC systems to minimize the spread of infectious diseases, published by ASHRAE and other built environment-focused organizations, has evolved during the COVID-19 pandemic through new data and research. For this virtual discussion, Dr. William Bahnfleth, Professor of Architectural Engineering at Penn State University, revisited his previous presentation on Managing HVAC Systems to Reduce Infectious Disease Transmission and discussed what has changed since May, highlighting current best practices. Dr. Bahnfleth additionally considered the energy and cost implications of building system upgrades and changes to operations.
