ETRT Members Only Meeting: Discussion of the Building Enclosure Performance Metric Research
Building enclosure technologies account for approximately 30% of the primary energy consumed in residential and commercial buildings. With the advent of energy efficient building envelope technologies, if properly installed, can significantly reduce this energy consumption. Building commissioning has been proven to ensure a better building performance, but what about the enclosure? Why hasn’t Building Enclosure Commissioning (BECx) been given more attention? Is it too complicated? Are true incentives missing? Is BECx too expensive and payback time unreasonable?
Learn about DOE and ORNL’s research into the costs and benefits of BECx as well as the investigation and development of a new building enclosure performance (BEP) metric to support building owners, designers and consultants in evaluating the benefits of BECx and investment in high performing envelope technologies. ETRT members were consulted on the value of the proposed BEP metric and ideas for addressing market challenges in conducting BECx.
