This sector-wide check-in call focused on advanced refrigeration, one of the key priorities for the Better Builldings Alliance's Retail, Food Service and Grocery sector. This discussion included refrigeration updates that can be helpful across multiple sectors. Speakers included:
- Michael Deru of the National Renewable Energy Lab (NREL): Michael presented on high-efficiency motors and controls for refrigeration condensors, describing new products and how partners can get involved.
- Tony Bouza of DOE presented on the latest technologies in the market, including propane, compressors, what's big in Europe, and the forthcoming IEA Annex.
- Danielle Wright of the North American Sustainable Refrigeration Council (NASRC), a BBA Affiliate organization, shared case studies of natural refrigeration projects that also reduced energy use, offered suggestions for specifying natural refrigerant systems to reduce energy costs, and provided an update on increasing propane charges as a means to greater efficiency in self-contained systems.
