How much energy are your devices consuming? Plug load disaggregation and a look to the future of device energy reporting

The Plug and Process Load Technology Research Team hosted two technical presentations from recently published studies that describe novel approaches for better understanding device-level energy consumption in buildings. Bennett Doherty (National Renewable Energy Laboratory) discussed findings from a new journal article titled Device-level plug load disaggregation in a zero energy office building and opportunities for energy savings and Bruce Nordman (Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory) presented his team’s work surrounding the ability for devices to self-report energy use from a recent report titled Energy Reporting: Device Demonstration, Communication Protocols, and Codes and Standards.
