Parrish Medical Center and Metrus Energy Find Water Savings through Efficiency Services Agreement (ESA)

Metrus Energy recently announced an Efficiency Services Agreement (ESA), also sometimes referred to as an Energy Services Agreement, with Parrish Medical Center and its affiliated Health and Wellness Center, located in Titusville, Florida. The project incorporates over 17 efficiency measures and will save the medical center approximately $830,000 annually. ESAs are an increasingly popular pay-for-performance, off-balance sheet financing solution that allow customers to implement efficiency projects with no upfront capital expenditure. While ESAs typically focus solely on a building’s energy components, this project demonstrates the versatility of the model, incorporating water efficiency measures that will save 3.7 million kilogallons annually at Parrish Medical Center. Metrus partnered with Sodexo USA to engineer the water efficiency solutions, including low-flow upgrades for the dishwashers and ice machines which reduce water consumption by injecting air into the refrigerant cycle. There are also low-flow upgrades for bathroom fixtures including toilets, faucets, and showerheads. The high-efficiency installations identified by Sodexo will benefit patients and doctors alike.

Metrus Energy is joining other Better Buildings partners in demonstrating leadership in reducing the energy needs of our nation’s water infrastructure. As of 2016, more than 35 partners have set water reduction goals and cumulatively saved 4 billion gallons of water. Metrus’ project at Parrish Medical Center serves as an example that the ESA financing solution can incorporate both energy and water reduction measures to generate significant cost savings.
