District Energy Plan
Bullitt County Public School District (BCPS), in accordance with Policy 05.23 Energy Management, wanted to implement best practices for energy management and involve the community in the process. Educating the community is the first step on the road map to energy management. Thus, the district created an Energy Team to create, implement, and oversee the District Energy Plan. The plan focused on using energy resources in a safe and proficient manner as well as recognizing and implementing cost saving methods and growing staff and student commitment to identified best practices in energy management.
Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to use energy wisely and made aware that each person needs to take responsibility for turning off energy using devices when not in use. The plan provides guidelines on the multiple energy measures such as temperature controls, building resource management, lighting, space heaters, filters, holiday period procedures, new construction standards, and water conservation. Additionally, the energy manager will monitor utility usage and strive to promote and implement the guidelines outlined in this plan. However, students, staff and community members are encouraged to participate and provide feedback on the plan as it is an ongoing process.
BCPS is implementing these principles through the District Energy Plan and demonstrating community leadership, collaborative planning by adopting best practices in energy management.
