Multifamily Housing: Sustainability and Green Jobs

Efforts to make multifamily housing more sustainable and energy efficient have a greater chance of success when the residents and the surrounding community are fully engaged. Public Housing Authorities (PHAs) around the country are taking unique, long-term approaches to sustainability by participating in SEED, which stands for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math), Energy, and Economic Development. This cross-agency pilot trains public housing residents for current and future STEM and technical jobs by increasing energy literacy, providing learning opportunities, and connecting residents to training opportunities for careers in the space. This compilation of Implementation Models demonstrates various approaches that Better Buildings Challenge Multifamily partners have taken to increase energy efficiency and resident opportunity through the SEED initiative.
