BACKGROUND

The Restaurant Support Center in Dublin, Ohio, serves as the corporate headquarters for The Wendy’s Company. The employees in this building provide support for the more than 6,700 Wendy’s restaurants across the globe. The Restaurant Support Center is a unique 325,000 square-foot facility containing an office complex, data center, and a test kitchen. In 2013, Wendy’s built a new wing called the Thomas Conference Center, which added 75,000 square feet of meeting space, a fitness center, and office space for employees. The Thomas Building and Conference Center was awarded LEED® Silver certification in spring 2013.

SOLUTIONS

Energy efficiency improvements implemented at the Restaurant Support Center have included LED lighting upgrades for approximately 400 fixtures, chiller replacements, and retro-commissioning. These projects led to a 32% reduction in source energy between 2013 and 2018.

OTHER BENEFITS

The energy efficiency measures implemented at the Restaurant Support Center resulted in a greenhouse gas emissions reduction of nearly 28 percent from 2013 to 2017. The local utility, AEP Ohio, also recognized Wendy’s in 2014 for its commitment to energy efficiency.
