Ingram Park Mall

BACKGROUND

The Ingram Park Macy's is a two story building that is one of four anchors at the mall. Opened in 1984, the store was originally designed with a rock ballasted asphalt built up roof. The store had two 170 ton Trane Sidewinder chillers that both would operate during store hours from the end of May through October to maintain satisfactory temperatures.

In 2012, one of the chillers failed and was replaced with a 170 ton energy efficient MultiStack chiller. Since then, even on the hottest day of summer, only the MuliStack chiller is run since it is able to carry the load of the building. The old chiller is exercised once a month just to have as a backup chiller. Also in 2012, the roof was replaced with a Seka Sarnafil single ply white reflective roof

SOLUTIONS

Since 2011, Macy’s has implemented a number of energy conservation measures including:

  • New multi-stack chiller
  • Over 1,110 LED Par 38 accent lamps on the sales floor
  • Two, 15 horsepower variable frequency drives
  • Single-ply membrane, high efficiency white roof with three inches of insulation

In addition to these technology upgrades, the store also reduced lighting levels in the early morning hours to emergency lighting only. The Ingram Park location benefits from Macy’s portfolio-wide energy management system, which pairs real-time energy performance data with regional energy management staff who work with stores to address potential energy efficiency issues.

OTHER BENEFITS

New interior LED lighting has improved the look of the sales floor and reduced maintenance required to replace expired bulbs. The comprehensive improvements help Macy's serve as responsible stewards of the environment, while also engaging their workforce and reducing costs.
