Yolo County Housing's mission statement is “We Build Community,” and it is dedicated to providing quality affordable housing and community development services to all within its service area. Created in 1950, the housing authority and its allied organizations provide assistance to almost 2,800 households. Its primary programs are funded by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and through the State of California (OMS and HCD).

Yolo County Housing (YCH) is committed to the Better Buildings Challenge and has planned and taken specific actions to support this commitment. Along with its continued involvement as a Climate Change Compact government within Yolo County, YCH has adopted and implemented an energy plan, is exploring the installation of solar farms through the Multi Family Affordable Housing grant program (“MASH”) and planning a 30% reduction energy retrofit of its HUD multi-family property, Crosswood Apartments. Crosswood will also serve as a test site for new energy reducing technologies. YCN plans to carry on its reduction of water usage at its properties in order to better provide for its most vulnerable constituents.
