WinnCompanies is a fifty-year-old mixed income multifamily housing developer, owner, and manager. Headquartered in Boston, WinnCompanies owns approximately 14,000 apartments across 100 properties in twelve states. One of Winn’s guiding principles is its Commitment to Sustainability, implemented company-wide and lead by our in-house energy team, prioritizing energy and water conservation, renewable energy deployment, resiliency and grid-interactive efficient building initiatives, and long-term decarbonization through high-performance new construction and energy efficiency renovation and capital improvement efforts. Winn has a decade’s long track record in reducing GHG emissions from buildings through deep energy retrofits, energy efficiency improvements, and the development of 3 megawatts of solar PV.

WinnCompanies is proud to partner with Department of Energy in the Better Climate Challenge, continuing and renewing our Better Buildings Challenge partnership, while complimenting our ongoing efforts in DOE’s Advanced Building Construction Collaborative and Connected Communities initiative. WinnCompanies will collaborate with peers and DOE partners in our efforts to establish a portfolio level, emissions baseline and building-specific plans to reduce emissions by at least 50% over ten years. Building specific roadmaps will follow a “Zero over time” approach to identify emission reduction opportunities, accomplished through on-site energy conservation, electrification, building envelope retrofits, solar and battery storage, and off-site clean energy procurement.
