PORTFOLIO-WIDE LEADERSHIP COMMITMENTS

Minimum 50% GHG reduction in 10 years
10% reduction in Energy Intensity

WHIRLPOOL CORPORATION IS PARTICIPATING IN THE FOLLOWING DOE PROGRAMS:

Better Climate Challenge   Better Plants Program

They plan to achieve the Better Climate Challenge reductions through a structured climate transition plan that addresses a four-prong approach to achieving these targets:

  • Continuing manufacturing process improvements to drive energy efficiency
  • Investing in renewable energy both on and off-site
  • Driving energy efficiency and deep energy retrofits
  • Defining an offset strategy for the remainder of their unavoidable emissions to achieve Net Zero

For their 9 US production facilities, Whirlpool already has plans in place to implement 100% renewable energy sources (VPPA, PPA, and on-site) to account for all the US scope 2 emissions ahead of the 10-year timeline. In addition, they have set internal targets for each of the manufacturing sites to reduce absolute Scope 1 and 2 emissions.
