Wesley Living

For over 50 years, Wesley Living has served senior adults as an outreach of The United Methodist Church. Their mission is "In response to the love of God, Wesley Senior Ministries is dedicated to providing excellent housing and services which enhance the quality of living for elderly persons and their families." Currently, Wesley Living serves over 2,200 residents in 2 Assisted Living communities and 28 affordable Senior Housing communities in West Tennessee, Western Kentucky and Eastern Arkansas. Wesley Living endeavors to provide service-enriched, independent retirement living where every resident feels a part of a friendly community, with interesting activities, supportive services, and friendships that make each day more meaningful.

Wesley Living participated in the Green Retrofit program offered through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The company retrofitted two properties for a total of $1.6 million. During this period, Wesley staff became familiar with both the technology available to reduce energy consumption, as well as how to prioritize those changes that would provide the most savings. Over the years, they have endeavored to use these “lessons learned" to make their housing more energy efficient. Wesley Living looks forward to the challenge of further reducing energy consumption.

Wesley Living recently converted a 1979 electric boiler with two gas condensing boilers in a 10-story high rise building with 281 units and in a 9-story building with 150 units. Additionally, they partnered with the Tennessee Valley Authority and Memphis Light Gas and Water on a $6 million renovation of 200 garden style apartments with 1970s technology, which is saving low-income residents 40% over pre-renovation utility costs.

Wesley Living is dedicated to reducing the consumption of energy, reducing carbon emissions, and taking advantage of current technologies while providing safe, sanitary, and efficient housing for low-income seniors. They endeavor to provide service enriched housing with building and construction improvements designed to improve social determinants of health for our residents. Their retrofit designs are made with interior air quality improvement, modern finishes and architectural modernizations while improving construction quality and building performance to reduce energy use. In 2023, Wesley Living achieved their Better Buildings Challenge goal of a 20% reduction in energy use intensity in 10 years.
