In partnership with the Better Plants Program, Toyota Motor North America, Inc. has reduced overall energy intensity from its baseline consumption. Toyota met its original target under the Better Plants Program by improving energy intensity by 28% cumulatively over five years. As a Better Buildings Challenge partner, it is committing to an additional 20% improvement in energy intensity over 12 years.
Activities implemented by the company to reduce energy consumption include:
- Installing energy efficient lighting
- Installing new measurement systems to track and monitor use of process equipment
- Implementing air flow reductions for a paint oven that reduced energy use and improved efficiency
- Installing new measurement meters to collect data throughout a plant to track compressed air usage
Toyota received a 2019 Better Practice Award for implementing an Energy Savings Company (ESCO) process in North America that has uncovered annual energy savings opportunities totaling 3% portfolio-wide - Practice Presentation.
