TIAA is a financial services organization specializing in retirement services to 3.7 million customers in the academic, research, medical and cultural fields. As a leader in the efficiency field, TIAA has committed to a Better Buildings Challenge goal of reducing energy consumption in 25 million square feet of office space and over 14 million square feet of multifamily space by 20% by 2020.
Participation in the Better Building's Challenge is providing a forum for TIAA to share its successes for others to learn from and replicate. In addition to driving comprehensive, building wide upgrades, TIAA is also committed to continually improving buildings that have already been upgraded. As an example, 801 Brickell (pictured), showcases TIAA commitment to identifying ways to improve already high-performing buildings. Work included enhancing building HVAC controls, performing water balancing for the HVAC system, installing and adjusting VFDs, and implement lighting retrofits. This project reflects TIAA on-going effort to identify and capture no-cost/low-cost opportunities across their portfolio of real estate.
