TE is committed to energy efficiency throughout its global operations; reducing energy usage reduces TE’s carbon footprint and it lowers its costs. TE has been focused on energy efficiency since it became an independent company in 2007. In 2008, TE began collecting comprehensive data on energy usage at over 170 locations around the world. In 2009, TE set its first company-wide reduction target -- a 10% reduction in energy usage by 2012 – and at the same time the company joined US DOE’s Better Plants program. Between 2010 and 2014, TE achieved a 19% reduction in global energy usage on an absolute basis, and a 30% reduction on a sales-adjusted basis. TE set a new goal in 2012 – an additional 10% reduction by 2015 from its 2012 baseline – and expects to achieve that goal as well. The company has achieved these reductions by publicly reporting on its goals and progress, by increasing awareness and engagement throughout the company, and by focusing on the areas with the greatest opportunity, including heating and cooling, compressed air systems and usage, lighting, and energy usage in the company’s core processes. TE looks forward to working in partnership with DOE to achieve its new 10-year 25% reduction goal.
