State of Colorado

The State of Colorado is committed to saving taxpayers money and reducing the impact of State operations on Colorado's environment and public health. Through a series of Executive Orders starting in 2003, Colorado has shown its commitment to making government operations more energy efficient and sustainable. The State's portfolio of buildings are a variety of buildings including, but not limited to, Department of Corrections facilities, office headquarters, laboratories, the State Fair facility, and behavioral health facilities.

Previous GHG emissions reduction approaches include LED retrofitting, installing and subscribing to photovoltaic systems, and upgrading heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems. The State is also pursuing electrification of 18% of the State Fleet by 2027 and building out electric vehicle charging infrastructure.

Colorado joined the Better Climate Challenge to reduce the State's scope 1 and 2 emissions by 50% by 2034 and build an organization-wide plan with GHG targets. The State will identify facilities that are prime candidates for energy performance contracts, pursue renewable energy on state facilities and state land, and continue the acquisition of electric vehicles.
