The Stark Metropolitan Housing Authority (SMHA) was founded in 1939 and assists over 4,000 families in Stark County, Ohio. As an agency, SMHA provides decent, safe, and sanitary housing and resident programs to eligible low- and moderate-income families of Stark County. By working in partnership with public and private sectors, SMHA provides families with housing choices and opportunities.

SMHA takes its Better Buildings Challenge pledge to reduce energy intensity by 25% within ten years seriously. SMHA will seek out cost-effective energy efficiency measures throughout its multifamily portfolio, including upgrading appliances to ENERGY STAR® labels. SMHA is currently considering implementing an Energy Performance Contract (EPC) or Rental Assistance Demonstration (RAD) conversion to complete energy efficiency upgrades.
