SLO County Airport (SBP)

San Luis Obispo County Airport (SBP) is a vital transportation gateway serving California’s Central Coast region, serving over 650,000 passengers a year. The airport terminal encompasses over 57,000 square feet and uniquely includes a post-security landscaped outdoor courtyard. Opened in late 2017, the terminal was built to meet LEED Gold standards and includes low-flow toilets and faucets, daylight harvesting, and drought-tolerant, low-water landscaping.

SBP is committed to approaching its Strategic Plan goals through a lens that ensures the region's long-term environmental, social, and economic well-being. Demonstrating those values, SBP participates in the Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA) program, an institutionally endorsed, global carbon management certification program for airports. In 2024, SBP was recognized by ACA for entering the program on the second certification level.

In addition to its Better Buildings Challenge goal, SBP’s ACA commitment is to reduce emissions by 30 percent by 2033. To accomplish these goals, SBP will engage a consultant to prepare a sustainability and decarbonization plan, which will include an ASHRAE Level II audit that examines energy, water, and carbon reduction opportunities. For further engagement with airport stakeholders, SBP will implement a staff and passenger recycling education program.
