Sierra Nevada Brewing Co.

Sierra Nevada sustainably operates and makes beer at its craft breweries. Sierra Nevada is passionate about producing beer with a small environmental impact. In 2010, it was named "Green Business of the Year" by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for its sustainability practices. Between the Chico and Mills River plants, Sierra Nevada has 2.6 megawatts of solar panels. The panels are located on roofs and in the parking lot, which provides shade for parked vehicles. It also provides free electric vehicle charging stations and has wastewater treatment. The gas produced is sent to microturbines to generate additional on-site electricity. Sierra Nevada sold its yeast and spent grains to be used by other industries and avoid the landfill. It also utilizes heat recovery whenever possible in the brewing process including air compressors, which are used as preheating for incoming water.
