In September 2015, Siemens became one of the first global industrial companies to announce its intention to become carbon neutral in its operating business by 2030. Since then, Siemens has deepened their commitment by announcing that they will become net zero across its global operations by 2030 and aim to achieve an emission-free supply chain by the year 2050.

Before joining the Better Climate Challenge, Siemens committed to the Science Based Targets Initiative, pledging to reduce emissions from its own operations (Scope 1 and 2) by 50% by the year 2030 and its Scope 3 emissions (upstream and downstream) by 15% compared to 2019. Siemens has expanded their ambitions beyond the scope of their validated Science-Based Target and shortened their internal timeline for decarbonization: As part of their DEGREE sustainability framework, they set a goal for all Siemens production facilities and buildings worldwide and their vehicle fleet to achieve a Net Zero carbon footprint by 2030. In effect, this means reducing CO₂e Scope 1 and 2 emissions in Siemens’ business operations by 90% by 2030.
