School District 197 (West St. Paul-Mendota Heights-Eagan Area Schools, MN)

School District 197 serves over 5000 students and consists of 12 buildings, eight of which are schools. At 52.41 kBtu/SF, our District's buildings operate in the top 5% of schools nationwide for energy use. The majority of our schools were built in the 1960s and 1970s, ranging in age from 25-90 years old.

Energy efficiency through building management and automation has been a top priority for the operations team for over 20 years and sustainability for over 10 years. We've added on- and off-site solar, high efficiency HVAC systems, LED lighting, and energy efficient equipment, all of which have improved our buildings' energy performance. In 2023, we received the U.S. Department of Energy's Best in Class Award for Energy Efficiency Plus Health for our work.
