As a Better Buildings, Better Plants Challenge Partner, Nissan North America has committed to reducing energy use in its three U.S. plants 25% by 2020, affecting 12 million square feet of plant space. This effort is part of Nissan's global environmental action plan, the Nissan Green Program 2016, which includes a wider application of fuel-efficient vehicles and corporate carbon footprint minimization.

Nissan received a 2017 Better Practice Award for implementing an enterprise-wide Energy Management System certified to ISO 50001 that includes all U.S. manufacturing facilities.

Nissan received a 2019 Better Project Award for implementing a chilled water optimization project that has saved 3,000 MWh in annual facility electric energy consumption - Project Presentation.

Nissan received a 2021 Better Project Award for upgrading air handling unit-controls to enable automatic maintenance of temperature and air quality, saving over $200,000 and 1,800 metric tons of CO2 per year.

Nissan's three U.S. plants are certified to the Superior Energy Performance program and recognized by the 50001 Ready program.
