National Housing Trust

National Housing Trust (NHT) protects and improves existing affordable rental homes so that low income individuals and families can live in quality neighborhoods with access to opportunities. The organization has preserved or helped to preserve more than 25,000 affordable homes through real estate development, lending, and technical assistance. Currently, NHT owns and operates over 2,500 affordable rental units across the East Coast.

In 2023, National Housing Trust met its Better Building Challenge (BBC) goal of portfolio-wide energy savings of at least 20 percent. Following that success, NHT made a commitment to the Better Climate Challenge (BCC) with a goal to reduce portfolio-wide GHG emissions intensity by 50% over ten years. NHT is taking the lessons learned from its BBC experience to develop and implement a roadmap that guides choice points in its portfolio as NHT works towards its BCC goals. Assessing existing properties for energy and emissions improvement opportunities is also a key strategy NHT is employing to achieving BCC goals.
