PORTFOLIO-WIDE LEADERSHIP COMMITMENTS
50% GHG reduction in 10 years
20% reduction in Energy Intensity
MAYO CLINIC IS PARTICIPATING IN THE FOLLOWING DOE PROGRAMS:
Better Climate Challenge | Better Buildings Alliance |
Commitment to the Better Climate Challenge builds upon a long history of energy conservation success. For example, in 2011, Mayo Clinic set a goal to reduce the energy use intensity of its Rochester, Minn. campus by 20% by 2020. Mayo Clinic reached that goal in 2017, almost three years ahead of schedule.
Strategies to achieve the Better Climate Commitment goals include implementing energy conservation initiatives to reduce energy use in existing buildings and investing in high performance new buildings and significant retrofits of existing infrastructure systems. Energy conservation initiatives will entail LED lighting conversions, identifying deficiencies and improving functionality in existing equipment, new building automation strategies, and strategic investment into capital that have large impacts on energy use. New construction and existing building retrofits will consist of developing energy models and EUI targets, electrification of current systems, increasing renewable energy portfolio (both on-site and off-site opportunities), and fleet vehicles electrification initiatives.
