KYB Americas Corporation

Headquartered in Franklin, Indiana, KYB manufactures original equipment shocks and struts for carmakers in the Americas and around the globe. Its main North American subsidiaries consist of a manufacturing plant in Franklin, Indiana, and a worldwide aftermarket distribution center in Greenwood, Indiana. KYB has partnered with the DOE since 2016, engaging in DOE-sponsored on-site events such as Energy Treasure Hunts and utilizing the talents of the Industrial Assessment Centers to uncover many low-cost energy-saving improvements. To date, KYB has reduced its GHG footprint by 15%.

Efficiency improvements have included new energy-efficient cooling towers, chillers, and pumps, to name a few. The company has signed GHG reduction commitments with customers under the Manufacturer 2030 initiative, as well as with its parent company in Japan. Besides purchasing renewable energy contracts with their utility, a future project being considered is the installation of an on-site solar array which would provide up to 20% energy (and GHG) savings.

KYB Americas Corporation received a 2023 Better Project Award for implementing a comprehensive chiller system replacement that resulted in annual energy savings of 2.1 million kWh, and energy and maintenance cost savings of $280,000. The project was identified as part of a Better Plants Energy Treasure Hunt In-Plant training.
