Kohl's climate action goals are focused on the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, reduction of energy use, and the increase of renewable energy use. These initiatives are part of the Kohl’s broader ESG strategy to create healthy futures for families, communities, and our planet.

As a partner in the Better Buildings Challenge, Kohl’s reached its goal of 20% energy reduction by 2020 two years early by achieving a 24% energy reduction from a 2008 baseline. The company has now set its sights higher with a new goal to cut energy by an additional 10% by 2025.

By joining the Better Climate Challenge in 2021, Kohl’s has committed to reduce Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2025 from a 2014 base year. Kohl’s is working to meet its goals through ENERGY STAR® certified buildings, lighting and HVAC upgrades, renewable energy, as well as LEED® certified buildings.
