Kansas City Public Schools (KCPS) is the 12th largest school district in the State of Missouri. The district serves over 16,000 students in grades PreK-12 and employs over 2,300 teachers and administrators. The portfolio is comprised of 35 schools including six high schools, two middle schools, 24 elementary schools, one career/technical education center, one adult education center, and one alternative graduation center.

KCPS has committed to a 20% improvement in energy use intensity over 10 years by 2026 compared to a 2013 baseline. In 2015, KCPS launched a $30 million energy service performance contract to fund a wide range of improvements, including upgraded lights, water systems, climate controls, HVAC systems, energy management software and preventative maintenance at area schools. To date, approximately 100 individual projects at 40 KCPS buildings have been completed.
