The Housing Authority of the City of Michigan City, Indiana (MCHA) manages 184 public housing units, as well as business activity, housing development, and turnkey units. The housing authority also administers a housing voucher program. MCHA plans to reduce its energy use by 20 percent by 2013 through a combination of energy literacy trainings and physical building upgrades. MCHA will train residents, administrative staff, and maintenance staff on the importance of energy conservation. The housing authority also plans to install energy efficient mechanical systems, Energy Star appliances, water-saving fixtures, and energy efficieny lighting in all buildings.
