Honda North America

Honda North America

Founded in 1948 in Hamamatsu, Japan, Honda opened its first U.S. storefront in Los Angeles, CA, in 1959. What began as a nimble operation with eight industrious associates would quickly grow to astounding heights. Honda’s holistic approach to reducing the impacts in all areas of business is called “Green Path.” Honda strives to design, build, deliver, and sell a car that have minimal environmental impacts.

In manufacturing cars, Honda utilizes real-time monitoring of energy use, allowing them to identify where the energy use is high. Equipment can be turned off between production shifts and when production is not taking place. Auto body painting is one of the processes that consumes the most energy in production plants. Honda has developed a method to reduce energy-use in the painting process which has allowed them to significantly reduce our plants’ overall energy use. By implementing a wide range of programs, Honda’s energy use per auto has been reduced 14% over the past decade. Honda today has eight automotive plants in the USA.
