Helena Housing Authority: Helena, MT

The Helena Housing Authority (HHA) is a non-profit agency established to provide safe and affordable housing to eligible low income residents. HHA is comprised of 366 public housing units on 28 sites at the base of the Rocky Mountains in Helena, Montana. Its diverse inventory ranges from a high rise serving the elderly and disabled, to a large 132 unit complex built in 1939. Through recent energy performance contracts, HHA anticipates reducing its annual energy costs by $225,000. HHA maintains a focus on reducing its carbon footprint while providing comfortable and energy-efficient homes to its residents.

To achieve the goals of the Better Buildings Challenge, HHA will strive to reduce electricity and natural gas consumption in all properties it owns and manages. Additionally, the organization has adopted a sustainability goal to develop new facilities with an ENERGY STAR^® rating, and to LEED standards, when viable. HHA will also continue to encourage conservation through recycling and performing retrofits with energy-efficient products.
