The Columbia Association (CA) is a nonprofit public service corporation dedicated to providing the highest level of service and amenities to the 100,000 residents of Columbia, Maryland. CA offers recreational, cultural, and community services including fitness facilities, an ice rink, two golf courses, more than 20 neighborhood and community centers, and 3,500 acres of open space.

Columbia Association signed on to the Better Climate Challenge committing to a 50% reduction in GHG emissions across their 530,000 square foot portfolio over 10 years. CA has internal goals to reduce GHG emissions by 50% and energy use intensity by 30%; strategies to support these goals include the deployment of heat pumps for space conditioning, LED lighting, and on-site solar photovoltaic systems.

The energy management program implemented by the Columbia Association has been a fundamental aspect of its operations since it was launched in 2012. Over the last decade, significant progress has been made in reducing energy consumption and GHG emissions, and empowering the Columbia, MD community to take similar steps in their homes and businesses.
