In 2021, the City of Gainesville, FL instituted energy efficiency standards for all rental units consisting of four units or less to save on energy costs for the tenants. During the inspection of the rental unit information is gathered to ensure compliance with the standards specified in Ordinance and to assess a Home Energy Score for the unit. The property owner is required to furnish the Home Energy Score to any prospective tenant in order for the tenant to ascertain whether one unit is more cost-effective than another when it comes to rent and utility expenses.
