BlocPower

BlocPower

BlocPower is a Brooklyn-based climate technology startup that works to make American cities greener, smarter and healthier. Since its founding in 2014, the company has retrofitted more than 1,200 buildings in low- and moderate-income (LMI) communities in New York City, with projects underway in cities across the United States.

BlocPower utilizes proprietary software for energy efficiency and electrification analysis, product leasing, project management, and performance monitoring, which drives down costs and delivers energy savings. The company has also pioneered structured financing solutions that aggregate retrofit projects, thereby unlocking additional capital and further lowering customer costs. BlocPower collaborates with community nonprofits, building owners, tenants, contractors, equipment manufacturers, investor-owned utilities, lenders, and governmental entities to scale projects and unlock opportunities that were previously inaccessible to LMI communities.

To date, BlocPower has saved its customers between 20 and 70 percent on annual energy costs—all while requiring zero up-front investment.

Markets Served

BlocPower manages retrofit projects in small- and mid-sized buildings, including multi-family residences, commercial properties, and community spaces. These projects are focused within LMI communities. BlocPower's core markets are New York, California, Wisconsin, Illinois, and the Mid Atlantic, with additional projects underway in dozens of cities across the United States.

Products and Services

BlocPower offers Energy Service Agreements, which are flexible, off-balance-sheet financing solutions that allow customers to implement energy efficiency and electrification projects with zero upfront capital expenditure. The retrofit projects focus on air-source heat pumps (ASHPs) but can also feature solar installations, LED lighting, and electric vehicle chargers. BlocPower is committed to performing pre-electrification work as required, including weatherization upgrades like insulation and pre-weatherization maintenance like roof repairs and mold, lead, and asbestos remediation.
