Verification Bodies

To ensure uniform quality, the Superior Energy Performance 50001 (SEP 50001) program certification process uses only qualified auditors. SEP 50001 Verification Bodies assign these certified experts to the audit team:

  • The versatile Lead Auditor for SEP 50001 is qualified to conduct ISO 50001 and SEP 50001 audits.
The Lead Auditor for SEP 50001 leads and manages the SEP 50001 audit team. This auditor holds an internationally recognized credential and can assess an organization’s management system conformance to ISO 50001 and additional SEP 50001 program requirements documented in ANSI/MSE 50028-1. Many of these auditors also hold the SEP Performance Verifier credential so can conduct the full audit for ISO 50001 and SEP 50001, including verification of the energy performance improvement.
  • Whether serving within a company or on a third-party audit team, the SEP Performance Verifier gives confidence and certainty in achieved savings.
The SEP Performance Verifier possesses the knowledge and skills to review, evaluate, and verify energy performance improvement—in addition to energy management system expertise. On the audit team, this verifier will assess a facility’s conformance to the SEP 50001 Measurement and Verification Protocol and energy performance improvement criteria.

IEnMP transferred these credentials to AEE. The SEP 50001 program issued an Interpretation regarding the impacts of the transition of the energy management credentials from IEnMP to AEE.
