Toyota North America - ElectroCell

Host Site Partner: Toyota North America
Host Site Location: Blue Springs, Mississippi
Technology Provider: ElectroCell Systems
Technology: Electrochemical Water Filtration System on an Open Loop Cooling Tower
Description: ElectroCell’s technology coagulates and collects total suspended solids (TSS) and total dissolved solids (TDS) from cooling tower water to reduce biogrowth and fouling. The vendor claims the technology results in reduced energy use due to improved heat transfer, as well as water savings and chemical savings.
Project Objectives: Validation of ElectroCell performance and benefits:
- Energy performance (cooling tower fans and pumps, chillers, and air compressors)
- Cooling tower make-up water
- Chemical use for water treatment
ElectroCell's proposed technology coagulates and collects total suspended solids (TSS) and total dissolved solids (TDS) from the cooling tower water and reduces bio-growth and fouling thereby resulting in improved heat transfer. The team at the Toyota North America's Blue Springs, Mississippi, facility is installing a side stream particle precipitator system to validate the performance and benefits in a live manufacturing environment.
