The Industrial Technology Validation (TV) program, administered by the Department of Energy's (DOE) Industrial Efficiency & Decarbonization Office (IEDO), aims to accelerate the development and adoption of transformational technologies that optimize industrial processes, increase energy efficiency, and enhance the competitiveness of U.S. industry in evolving global markets. ITV objectively assesses the performance of emerging industrial technologies in real-world operating conditions and shares the results through publicly available measurement and verification reports, providing 3rd party validation of emerging technologies.
TECHNOLOGY’S VALLEY OF DEATH CAN BE HARD ON EMERGING TECHNOLOGIES
U.S. Industry is one of this country’s most robust and essential economic sectors, collectively representing more than 32 percent(1) of the country’s total energy consumption, accounting for nearly 11.4% of total economic output, 12 million American workers, and accruing annually $200 billion(2) in energy costs. Abundant resources are invested in early-stage research and development of more efficient technologies to address these costs but the risks involved in installing them in high-stakes industrial environments can impede adoption. Next-generation industrial technologies can only support American competitiveness if they eventually make it out of the lab and onto the factory floor.

OBJECTIVE EVALUATION CAN ACCELERATE ADOPTION
To overcome the risks inherent in adopting emerging technologies, IEDO’s ITV program is partnering with DOE’s National Labs to objectively validate performance in dynamic industrial environments. Building on the success of other federal technology validation programs—GSA’s Proving Ground (GPG), DOE’s High Impact Technology Catalyst, and DoD’s Environmental Security Technology Certification Program (ESTCP)—findings will be publicly shared and help accelerate the adoption of emerging industrial technologies.
