Idaho National Laboratory

Idaho National Laboratory (INL) is the nation’s lead laboratory for nuclear energy research, development, demonstration and deployment and is engaged in the mission of ensuring the nation’s energy security with safe, competitive and sustainable energy systems and unique national and homeland security capabilities.

INL also includes an Energy and Environment Science and Technology Directorate (EEST), which is focused on innovations in transportation systems, clean energy, advanced manufacturing and environmental sustainability. For example, to help U.S. manufacturing maintain a competitive edge, INL researchers are developing new processes and technologies to reduce the life-cycle energy consumption of manufactured goods and to ensure critical material supplies. INL’s goal is to reduce waste by more than half through increased recovery, reuse, remanufacturing and recycling. INL’s historic mission has fostered a number of core capabilities that are ideally suited to solve these challenges.
