PORTFOLIO ENERGY PERFORMANCE

Better Buildings Challenge Partners strive to decrease portfolio-wide source energy use intensity (EUI) and to increase the percent improvement compared to a set baseline. The Xenia Community Schools' portfolio consists of 9 buildings and 700 thousand square feet. Xenia has improved energy performance by 23% from a 2013 baseline, making progress towards a goal of 25% by 2023. Energy savings have been achieved by implementing controls upgrades, energy efficient control sequences, and lighting retrofits. The district also installed a real time energy metering system to track and respond to unexpected changes.

ENERGY PERFORMANCE BY PROPERTY

Looking at the percent improvement in energy performance across all properties can provide insight into how an organization is saving energy. Xenia Community Schools has achieved energy performance improvement of greater than 5% at 8 of its properties, and over 15% in 5 out of 9 properties.

IDENTIFYING OPPORTUNITIES FOR IMPROVEMENT

Property-level energy performance metrics, including EUI and percent improvement to date, are critical to track progress over time and identify opportunities for additional energy savings. Xenia's portfolio consists of properties with a wide range of baseline EUI values, most of which fall between 90 to 150 kBtu/sq. ft. All properties have shown energy improvement since 2013.
