University of California, Berkeley: Energy performance

Energy Performance
Cumulative (vs. Baseline)-2%
Annual (2019)-1%

Better Buildings Challenge Partners strive to decrease portfolio-wide source energy use intensity (EUI) and to increase the percent improvement compared to a set baseline. UC Berkeley's portfolio consists of more than 12 million square feet. UC Berkeley is working to improve their energy performance from a 2014 baseline, making progress towards a goal of 20% by 2025. A revitalized Energy Office at UC Berkeley has focused on large, strategic efficiency projects over the last two years. Several large MBCx and RCx projects have been completed; staff have targeted in-house RCx, including optimizing chilled water systems; a campus-wide interior LED retrofit project in its second year has completed six buildings; and the office is reviewing deferred maintenance and capital improvement projects to ensure best practices. While these efforts have resulted in measurable electricity savings, the team is now focusing on steam heating energy, which has recently increased.
