New York-Presbyterian Hospital: Energy performance

Energy Performance
Cumulative (vs. Baseline)14%
Annual (2019)9%

Better Buildings Challenge Partners strive to decrease portfolio-wide source energy use intensity (EUI) and to increase the percent improvement compared to a set baseline. NYPH's portfolio consists of 5 campuses and nearly 8 million square feet. Since 2011, NYPH has improved energy performance by 14%. Energy savings have been achieved by performing retrocommissioning and energy audits that prioritized energy conservation measures. Recommendations included lighting retrofits - installing LED's across all facilities, reducing boiler plant steam pressures, installing boiler economizers, repairing steam traps and insulating steam lines, HVAC upgrades, chiller plant optimization, replacing aging air handling units, cooling towers and adding variable frequency drives. NYP also engages hospital employees and the operations and maintenance teams through energy awareness programs focusing on low-cost opportunities.
