NIKE, Inc.: Energy performance

Energy Performance
Cumulative (vs. Baseline)29%
Annual (2021)6%

Better Buildings Challenge Partners strive to decrease portfolio-wide source energy use intensity (EUI) and to increase the percent improvement compared to a set baseline. In 2021, Nike's portfolio consisted of more than 60 buildings and nearly 10 million square feet, including offices, retail facilities, and distribution centers. Nike has improved energy performance (as measured by energy use intensity) by 29% from a 2012 baseline, however energy consumption throughout 2020 and 2021 was lower than typical years (primarily in offices) due to the COVID-19 pandemic resulting in building closures and reduced occupancy. Building retrofits (including HVAC upgrades and implementation of LED lighting), lighting sensors, and thermostat controls have driven efficiency improvements at sites across the portfolio.
