Better Buildings Challenge Partners strive to decrease portfolio-wide source energy use intensity (EUI) and to increase the percent improvement compared to a set baseline. Margate's portfolio consists of 14 buildings and 120 thousand square feet. *Margate has improved energy performance by 28% from a 2011 baseline. Energy consumption during 2020 was significantly lower than a typical year since COVID-19 disruptions resulted in temporary building closures and reduced occupancy for much of the year. Energy savings have been achieved by implementing lighting and HVAC retrofits across all properties along with an energy awareness program focused on employees understanding how their everyday actions have an impact on energy consumption.

ENERGY PERFORMANCE BY PROPERTY

Looking at the percent improvement in energy performance across all properties can provide insight into how an organization is saving energy. Margate has achieved energy performance improvement of greater than 6% at eight of its properties. There is one property that has experienced an increase in Source EUI. This property will be targeted for future energy improvements.

IDENTIFYING OPPORTUNITIES FOR IMPROVEMENT

Property-level energy performance metrics, including EUI and percent improvement to date, are critical to track progress over time and identify opportunities for additional energy savings. Margate's portfolio consists of properties with a wide range of baseline EUI values, which are mostly in the 100 to 400 kBtu/sq. ft. range. Over seventy-five percent (75%) of the City’s properties have shown energy improvement since 2011. The properties located near or below the 0% axis present good opportunities for further savings.
