Better Buildings Challenge Partners strive to decrease portfolio-wide source energy use intensity (EUI) and to increase the percent improvement compared to a set baseline. JCHE`s portfolio consists of 8 buildings and 926,000 square feet. As measured against their 2011 baseline year JCHE has improved energy performance by 24 percent. They became a BBC goal achiever in 2016 JCHE and shortly thereafter began major renovation projects at two of their properties that resulted in a slight increase in their 2017 portfolio wide energy use. They anticipate a return to positive savings once these projects complete.

Looking at the percent improvement in energy performance across all facilities can provide insight into how an organization is saving energy.  JCHE has achieved energy performance improvement of greater than 15% at 4 of its properties. There is 1 property that has experienced an increase in Source EUI.  This, along with several others have been targeted for future energy efficiency improvements that will reduce overall energy use as well as demand and demand charges.

Property-level energy performance metrics, including EUI and percent improvement to date, are critical to track progress over time and identify opportunities for additional energy savings. JCHEs portfolio consists of properties with  a wide range of baseline EUI values, ranging from 86 to 187 kBtu/sq. ft. The majority of properties have shown energy improvement since 2011. The properties located near or below the 0% axis may present good opportunities for further savings.
