Better Buildings Challenge Partners strive to decrease portfolio-wide source energy use intensity (EUI) and to increase the percent improvement compared to a set baseline.  Hackensack Meridian Health's portfolio consists of seven buildings and more than 2 million square feet. Hackensack Meridian Health has improved energy performance by 2% from a 2013 baseline, making progress towards a goal of 20% by 2023. Hackensack Meridian Health has undertaken a range of energy conservation measures across the board. Such projects include an ongoing three-year Building Automation System Upgrade. Demand Response participation, and increasing the efficiency of the central boiler plant.

ENERGY PERFORMANCE BY PROPERTY

Looking at the percent improvement in energy performance across all facilities can provide insight into how an organization is saving energy. Hackensack Meridian Health has achieved energy performance improvement of greater than 2% at three of its properties. There are four properties that have experienced an increase in Source EUI. These properties are currently being targeted for future energy efficiency improvements.

IDENTIFYING OPPORTUNITIES FOR IMPROVEMENT

Property-level energy performance metrics, including EUI and percent improvement to date, are critical to track progress over time and identify opportunities for additional energy savings. Hackensack Meridian Health's portfolio consists of properties with a wide range of baseline EUI values, with most buildings falling between roughly between 100-500 kBtu/sq. ft. Hackensack Meridian Health is currently in the planning stages of several energy conservation measures that will improve the energy efficiency and building performance. The properties located near or below the 0% axis present an opportunities for further savings for Hackensack Meridian Health.
