Digital Realty Trust: Energy performance

Better Buildings Challenge partners sharing data centers strive to decrease portfolio-wide power usage effectiveness (PUE) and to increase the percent improvement compared to a set baseline. Digital Realty Trust's (DRT) portfolio consists of 11 data centers with 20 MW of utility consumption. DRT has improved energy performance by 25% from a 2013 baseline, surpassing their goal of 20% by 2024. Energy savings have been achieved by implementing HVAC upgrades, including VFD implementations, containment deployments and controls optimizations. Other energy savings initiatives include air management improvements and SLA modifications to allow for enhanced economizer operation.
