CommonWealth Partners: Energy performance

Average Annual % Improvement3.0%

Better Buildings Challenge Partners strive to decrease portfolio-wide source energy use intensity (EUI) and to increase the percent improvement compared to a set baseline. CommonWealth Partners' portfolio in 2018 consisted of 15 buildings and over 10.1 million square feet with a baseline of 17 buildings representing over 11 million square feet. Since 2010, CommonWealth Partners has improved energy performance by over 3% annually. Energy savings have been achieved by implementing low-cost/no-cost operational improvements and lighting upgrades across all properties. Additional savings were achieved by completing DDC control upgrades and installing thermal storage tanks.

Looking at the percent improvement in energy performance across all facilities can provide insight into how an organization is saving energy. CommonWealth Partners has achieved energy performance improvement of greater than 10% at 9 of its properties. There are two owned and managed properties that have experienced an increase in Source EUI.

Property-level energy performance metrics, including EUI and percent improvement to date, are critical to track progress over time and identify opportunities for additional energy savings. CommonWealth Partners' portfolio consists of properties with a wide range of baseline EUI values, most of which are from 100 to 400 kBtu/sq. ft. The majority of properties have shown energy improvement since 2010. The properties located near or below the 0% axis may present good opportunities for further savings.
