PORTFOLIO ENERGY PERFORMANCE

Better Buildings Challenge Partners strive to decrease portfolio-wide source energy use intensity (EUI) and to increase the percent improvement compared to a set baseline. Arlington's portfolio consists of more than 75 buildings and 1.9 million square feet.

*Arlington has improved energy performance by 18% from a 2009 baseline. Energy consumption during 2020 and 2021 was significantly lower than a typical year since COVID-19 disruptions resulted in temporary building closures and reduced occupancy for much of the year. Arlington County implemented a whole-building advanced metering solution at the Justice Center. The solution complements its facilities BAS by delivering energy savings with data-driven solutions ranging from monitoring, measuring and verification to predictive energy optimization and recommendations. Arlington County also replaced the old Lubber Run Community Center with new state-of-the-art, highly energy-efficient, LEED Gold-targeted, net-zero-ready community center that also features vast green roof spaces.
