What Are In-Plant Trainings (INPLTs)?

In-Plant Trainings (INPLTs) are 2–4-day workshops led by Better Plants experts who train participants on how to identify, implement, and replicate energy-saving projects. INPLTs offer Better Plants Program and Challenge partners the opportunity to host or participate in an energy-savings assessment and associated training on specific industrial systems. Partners learn about technology fundamentals, receive training on tools, and take away lessons to identify energy-saving opportunities and best practices to implement at their own facilities. The technical expertise gained through INPLTs helps organizations overcome common, critical barriers to adopting energy management practices and technologies.

Who Can Participate?

Better Plants and Better Climate Challenge partners can apply to host an INPLT at one of their facilities and invite others to attend. With host site permission, the event may be attended by other Better Plants partners and entities such as Industrial Assessment Centers (IACs), state energy offices, utility representatives and vendors.

How do I Benefit?

Participants from manufacturing plants, supply chains, utilities, and other external stakeholders learn how to conduct energy assessments, use energy analysis tools to analyze energy saving opportunities, develop energy management systems, and implement energy-saving projects. INPLTs give participants an unbiased and technology-neutral knowledge, tools, and the ability to improve energy efficiency and productivity in their plants. DOE experts emphasize a system-level approach that considers the interaction of individual components and how they are configured within the system to optimize energy efficiency. INPLTs puts an emphasis on training and capacity buildings among participants. At the end of the INPLT, participants receive a DOE certificate for completing professional development hours. To help partners prepare their staff for participating in an INPLT workshop, the Better Plants team has assembled a series of Pre-In-Plant Training webinars to act as primers for the various workshop topics.
