Sector Priorities
Industrial Assessment Centers
Partners have access to no-cost energy assessments from DOE’s Industrial Assessment Centers. Teams at 31 universities around the country conduct the energy audits to identify opportunities to improve productivity, reduce waste, and save energy. To date IACs have provided more than 134,000 recommendations, resulting in more than 17,600 manufacturers benefiting from the program. The average IAC assessment leads to 5-7% implemented energy savings and productivity improvement.
Onsite Energy Technical Assistance
The Onsite Energy Technical Assistance Partnerships (TAPs) helps facilities across the nation integrate the latest onsite energy technologies by providing specialized technical assistance, including initial screenings for multi-technology solutions, advanced analysis to support project installations, and more. For more information and assistance, find and contact the TAP in your region.
50001 Ready
The U.S. Department of Energy's 50001 Ready program recognizes facilities and organizations that practice ISO 50001-based energy management. The program does not require any external audits or certifications and is a self-paced, no-cost way for organizations to build a culture of structured energy improvement that leads to deeper and sustained savings. 50001 Ready partners with utilities and other organizations that support and facilitate the implementation of 50001 Ready energy management systems.
Superior Energy Performance
Better Plants partners are taking advantage of DOE’s Superior Energy Performance® (SEP 50001™) program to develop advanced energy management systems and verify their energy savings. SEP 50001™ can provide facilities with guidance, tools, and protocols to drive deeper, more sustained savings from ISO 50001.
Manufacturing USA Institutes
The U.S. Department of Energy has funded five institutes as a part of Manufacturing USA, a government-wide initiative focused on coordinating public and private investment in emerging advanced manufacturing technologies. Manufacturing USA brings together industry, academia, and government partners to leverage existing resources, collaborate, and co-invest to advance manufacturing innovation and accelerate commercialization. Better Plants partners can directly benefit from these institutes by joining them as official members. To learn more about the individual institutes the Better Plants team has put together one-pagers for each of the institutes.
